Drakenstein Stud’s sensational young sire Philanthropist has been on fire –with his offspring excelling in two different hemispheres!
Not only is Philanthropist one of South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sires, his Canadian runners have been in fine fettle, and daughter Dancing On Fire became his third stakes winner in just over a month when she landed the Rainbow Connection Stakes at Fort Erie on Tuesday.
Dispatched a well fancied second choice, Dancing On Fire impressed in victory in Tuesday’s 1000m race-despite racing three wide, Dancing On Fire ran out a facile three length winner over a smart field of fillies and she should build on this. Inbred to Mr Prospector, Dancing On Fire has now won four times and won or placed in eight of 12 starts to date.
Philanthropist, whose runners have earned more than $16 000 000 thus far, has a top class representative in Sunday’s G1 Thekwini Stakes. The Drakenstein Stud bred and owned filly was a close third last time out in the Golden Slipper and must rate a leading chance in Sunday’s big race.
Her sire has made a superb start with his first South African 2yos this season. Philanthropist’s first local winners including the above mentioned Sail, as well as the debut winners Good To Give, Rockefeller and Tipping Point, and he clearly rates as one of the country’s most exciting young stallions.
The blue blooded son of Kris S has two lots on the upcoming CTS August Two-Year-Old Sale:
Lot 62 –a half sister to 2 winners, this filly is out of an Elliodor half sister to G2 winner Arion and she is from the same Lily family as such high class G1 winners as Bold Thatch, Fort Defiance, Ravishing, Vega and Villandry –to name a few
Lot 81- a half sister to 3 winners, this filly is out of a daughter of champion sire Giant’s Causeway (damsire of recent G1 Eclipse Stakes winner Hawkbill) and G1 Golden Slipper winning champ Burst.
