Number five for Captain Al!
Klawervlei’s resident sire, Captain Al, wrapped his fifth consecutive leading juvenile sires title yesterday. The stallion was well clear on the log, with his juveniles winning R2 554 025 for the season, placing him above first crop sires Antonius Pius and Judpot, with Var and Trippi rounding out the top five on the log.
Captain Al, long established as an outstanding sire of juvenile talent, achieved a level of astonishing dominance with his two-year-olds during the 2012-2013 season.
His youngsters included a stunning 25 individual winners, of whom seven (28%) were black type performers.
The champion was represented by five individual juvenile stakes winners during the season, headed up by Gr1 Tsogo Sun Medallio winner, and Equus Award nominee, Captain Of All.
Captain Al was also responsible for the first three fillies home in the Gr3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery, where Wheredowego beat fellow Captain Al fillies Pure Power and Alascan Maiden.
Proven as South Africa’s leading sire of juvenile talent, it will take some doing to dethrone Captain Al as the country’s top source of precocity this season!
An emerging broodmare sire, Captain Al, at the time of writing, has been represented by 41 stakes winners, with his progeny have grossed a total of over R69 000 000 in prize money.
