Barbara and Ian Sanne’s Oldlands Stud will be represented by three quality lots at this weekend’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
The farm, which has bred such top class performers as Go Indigo, English Garden, and Astro News, has already enjoyed notable success at the Premier Sale, with Oldlands having sold a R4 000 000 Var colt at the sale two years ago.
Oldlands’ 2017 Cape Premier Yearling Sale includes a half-sister to the R4 000 000 colt. Sired by triple G1 winner and European champion Oratorio, this filly (catalogued as Lot 37), has been named Seek Moon Magic.
Not only is Seek Moon Magic by a sire with nearly 50 stakes winners to his credit, but she is a half sister to two winners including G3 Final Fling Stakes winner Cat And The Moon, who earned over R500 000 on the track. From the same family as Equus Champions Jay Peg and Kochka, this well bred filly’s winning dam is a half sister to 2 stakes winners, including G1 Daily News 2000 runner up Lucky Find, who also went on to enjoy notable success overseas, where he won the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge.
Next of the Oldlands draft to come into the ring is lot 42 –a daughter of former champion sire Silvano. The latter is the sire of numerous top class fillies including such G1 winners as Field Flower, Flirtation, Happy Valentine, and Silver Mountain. The filly on offer, named Queen Nitrocris, is a half-sister to 2 stakes winners, namely G2 Fillies Guineas winner Go Indigo and flying sprinter Tar Heel. Bred on the hugely successful Silvano/Blushing Groom cross as G1 winners Martial Eagle and Heavy Metal, this filly hails from the same family as G1 winning sprinter On Stage.
Leading sire Var has been enjoying another memorable season, with his current top performers including top sprinter Rivarine, an impressive winner of the recent G3 Lebelo Sprint. Var, whose 70 plus stakes horses include 18 individual G1 horses, is also sire of such champions as Variety Club, Val De Ra and Via Africa and is well established as one of South Africa’s top sires.
He is the sire of lot 168 –a bay colt named Riboux En Var, a half brother to six winners including G1 SA Derby third and British winner Rippling Ring. Bred on the same Var/Fort Wood cross as G1 winner Contador (and having a second dam by Elliodor-damsire of the Var sired champion Val De Ra), this colt’s second dam is a six time stakes winner and this is the same family as top sprinter Signor Amigo.
