Oratorio continues to fire!

Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s promising sire Oratorio was represented by his second winner from his first South African crop of foals on Sunday.

Oratorio, whose first crop son Sacred Oration is unbeaten in two starts to date, is the sire of Sunday’s smart juvenile winner Arianos Bagofgold, who broke his maiden at just the second time of asking for trainer Gavin Van Zyl and breeder Dr Ian Heyns when scoring a neck victory at Scottsville over 1000 metres.

Arianos Bagofgold, who was produced by the Var mare Heritage Wood, was a R300 000 buy from the 2016 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

Another by the sire, Swift Dancer, was beaten just over a length on the same day, and this well bred filly should not be long in winning.

Oratorio’s first South African crop now includes five 2yos who have either won or finished in the money, and, with a large number of well bred two-year-olds waiting in the wings, this number should grow substantially in the coming weeks.

Danehill’s triple G1 winning son, and former European champion, is well represented at both of this week’s sales.

Oratorio has one lot on offer at Thursday’s Cape Yearling Sale – a half-sister to G3 Tony Ruffel Stakes winner Fantastic Mr Fox, whose dam is a three time winning daughter of champion broodmare sire Fort Wood and three time stakes winner Foxroom (Lot 122).

The former dual champion sire in Italy also has five lots on offer at this weekend’s March Yearling Sale, including a filly whose stakes winning dam is a daughter of champion sire Captain Al and G1 Thekwini Stakes winner Roxanne (Lot 128), a filly out of a Danehill Dancer ½ sister to a G2 Merchants winner (Lot 212) and a half-sister to G3 Winter Derby winner Elusive Silva (Lot 230).
