The nominees for the Hong Kong Jockey Club Champion Awards were recently announced, and it came as no surprise to see former Horse Of The Year Military Attack as among the nominees. The evergreen son of Oratorio’s performances this season included a win, over a star studded field, in the G2 Longines Jockey Club Cup, and the ultra gutsy 8yo also finished a close second in the G1 Audemars Piguet QE II Cup back in April (Military Attack accounting for such top class performers as Blazing Speed, Lovely Day, Nuovo Record, Highland Reel, Ertijaal and Rising Romance on that occasion).

Military Attack has won 13 times and earned over HK$8 000 000 in stakes. His wins include four at G1 level –notably the G1 Singapore Airlines International Cup and the 2013 G1 Audemars Piguet QE II Cup, where the champ accounted for the likes of Horse Of The Igugu and Irish Derby winner Treasure Beach.

Winners of the Champion Awards will be announced at The Hong Kong Jockey Club Champion Awards 2015/2016 presentation ceremony to be held on Friday, 8 July 2016, at the Grand Ballroom, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.

Military Attack’s popular sire Oratorio is strongly represented at next week’s Sibaya KZN Yearling Sale. The champion son of Danehill, whose first South African yearlings have fetched up to R3.2 million this season, has no five high quality lots on offer at the Durban sale:

Lot 30 – a half sister to this season’s top class stakes winner Victoria Lavelle, this filly is out of a stakes winning daughter of triple champion sire Western Winter

Lot 126 – a half sister to 3 winners, including the record breaking Humidor, this filly is from the same family as G1 winning fillies Covenant, Lady Brompton and champion Promisefrommyheart, and this is also the family of this season’s top class 3yo Captain Splendid

Lot 180 –this filly, inbred to Danzig, Roberto and Spring Adieu, is out of a half sister to G2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes winner Hawker Hunter

Lot 198 –from the family of US G1 winner Gypsy’s Warning, this filly is out of a winning daughter of Jet Master and SA Oaks winner Royal Prophecy

Lot 268 –inbred to Danehill, this colt also hails from the family of Gypsy’s Warning and Royal Prophecy, as well as the latter’s Oaks winning own sister Noble Destiny and current high class feature race winner Romany Prince
