Highlands Farm’s exciting young sire Pathfork continued the great start that he has made to his stud career, when he was the Leading Sire by Aggregate at the recently concluded Sibaya KZN Yearling Sale.
The former Irish Champion had seven lots on offer at the two day sale, and all seven Pathforks selling for an aggregate of R1.42 million.
The top price paid for a Pathfork yearling at the sale, was the R450 000 laid out by Nick Jonsson for a filly out of Via Cosa Como.
To date, Pathfork has already had 10 first crop runners either win or finish in the money, and they include the brilliant, and undefeated Red Chesnut Road –a facile winner of the G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes and Listed Dahlia Plate runner up Turbo, a runner in Friday’s G3 Champion Juvenile Cup.
A champion at two, Pathfork’s victories included the G1 National Stakes, a race won previously by numerous sire successes including Danehill Dancer, Dubawi, El Prado, Roberto, Sir Ivor and Storm Bird (sire of the legendary US sire Storm Cat).
Pathfork shares his sire, Distorted Humor, with proven G1 sires Any Given Saturday and Flower Alley, as well as Maclean’s Music- currently the fifth leading first crop sire in North America.
Out of a Sadler’s Wells’ half sister to a Breeders’ Cup Mile winner, Pathfork is from the great Best In Show family, responsibly for leading sires El Gran Senor, Northern Guest, Redoute’s Choice and Try My Best (sire of champion sire Last Tycoon and ancestor of Dark Angel).
