Pathfork star shines for KZN Sale

The Highlands Farm bred Red Chesnut Road is one of a growing number of high class performers who have already emerged from the 2015 Suncoast Casino KZN Yearling Sale.

Unbeaten in two starts, Red Chesnut Road has won his only two outings by an aggregate of 14 lengths, with his last racetrack appearance seeing the colt cruise home by 6.25 lengths in the G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes.

Trained by Robbie Hill, Red Chesnut Road cost owners Messrs Buitendag, Kalil, Hayman, Hill, Sadleir and Seweraj R250 000 at the 2015 KZN Sale. The colt is from the first crop of former Irish Champion 2YO Pathfork, unbeaten at two and winner of the G1 Vincent O’Brien National Stakes.
Pathfork, by former champion US sire Distorted Humor, is once again represented at this year’s KZN Yearling Sale –his seven strong draft includes a colt from the same family as current high class performers Negroamaro and Balance Sheet (Lot 233), a colt out of a winning daughter of Jet Master and G3 heroine Fire Tread (Lot 254), and a half brother to 3 stakes horses including Thukela Handicap hero Road To Reason (Lot 257).

Red Chesnut Road is out of the three time winning Fort Wood mare Scarlet Sky –a daughter of G1 Empress Club Stakes winner Fading Light.

Another smart stakes winning 2yo to have emerged from last year’s KZN Yearling Sale is the talented Piemonte Stud bred filly O Tamara. Bought by Pine Lodge Stud at the sale for just R30 000, the Lee and Dino Scribante owned juvenile has won three times this season including the Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes.

A daughter of the Cheveley Stud bred champion Argonaut, the Alan Greeff trained O Tamara is out of the three time winning Spectrum mare Syncopate.  Her sire has a single lot on offer at this year’s sale –a half brother to a seven time winner, whose relatives include G1 Guineas runner up and sire Flying Pegasus (Lot 20).

With a number of other really promising juveniles, including the G3 placed Determination, G1 contender He’s A Var, and debut winners Caddy Master and Poster Girl, also to have emerged from the 2015 KZN Yearling Sale, one can but wonder what this year’s sale may uncover!
