Drakenstein Stud’s exciting young stallion Philanthropist has already achieved plenty in his fledgling stud career.
The imposing son of Kris S reached another milestone in 2014 when ending the year atop a major North American sires list.

Philanthropist ended 2014 as North America’s Leading All Weather Sire with his runners accumulating over $2.149 in stakes – or over R25 million.
He finished clear of such world class sires as Candy Ride (6th), Harlan’s Holiday (10th), Stormy Atlantic (12th), Giant’s Causeway (14th) and More Than Ready (17th) – to name but a few.

Quite an achievement from a stallion who never received the same quantity, or quality, of mares that many of his rivals did.

Philanthropist, whose first small crop included the millionaire winning champions Pender Harbour and Phil’s Dream, also enjoyed good success with his juveniles in 2014.

The sire of smart stakes winning juveniles Eff Bee Eye and Phil’s Cocktail, Philanthropist ended 2014 as the second leading sire of 2yos in Canada –where his babies wracked up over $800 000 in stakes.

Well supported in his first South African seasons at stud, Philanthropist has 13 lots on sale at this month’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
His draft includes a half brother to top sprinters Franny and Sweet Sanette (Lot 39), a filly out of the beautifully Grade 1 performer Valeta (Lot 77), and a filly out of former star racemare Easyjadeasy (Lot 125).

A horse with a magnificent pedigree, Philanthropist looks a young sire with a very bright future ahead of him.
