Drakenstein Stud’s exciting and popular young stallion Philanthropist proved one of the stand out sires at the recently concluded National Yearling Sale.
The son of Kris S ended the three day sale with his 12 lots grossing R5 650 000, and averaging an impressive R470 833. His average placed Philanthropist above the likes of High Chaparral, Var, Western Winter, Visionaire and Querari, to name but a few.
Philanthropist, who ended the sale above (on aggregate) such top class sires as Fort Wood, Western Winter and Kahal, had two yearlings sell for R1 000 000 plus, and no fewer than six lots make R500 000 or more.
The top Philanthropist sold at the 2016 NYS was his colt, Edge Of The Sun, who was knocked down to trainer Duncan Howells for R1 100 000. Consigned by Highlands Farm, the colt is out of the three time winning Fort Wood mare Scarlet Sky.
Philanthropist’s second top priced lot, an unnamed chestnut colt out of the Model Man mare Trading Up, was knocked down to Team G Racing for R1 050 000. The imposing colt was consigned by the Narrow Creek Stud.
Currently one of South Africa’s leading first crop sires to date, Philanthropist’s first crop winners thus far include brilliant recent winner Sail and the highly regarded debut winner Good To Give, rated a potential feature race contender by his connections.
From the same male line as last season’s champion South African sire Captain Al and from the same family as leading sires National Assembly, Sovereign Dancer and What A Pleasure, Philanthropist looks on course to make as big a name for himself in South Africa as he did in North America!
