Philanthropist takes high ranking

Drakenstein Stud’s world leading sire Philanthropist, last year’s Leading Sire in North America on Synthetics, is once again high up on a major international sires table.

The son of Kris S currently rates as the 15th Leading Sire (by Average Earnings Index) on the Blood Horse list for 2015.

Sire of champions Pender Harbour and Phil’s Dream, Philanthropist currently has an AEI of 1.86 – and upgrades handsomely on his CI (Comparative Index) of 1.48.

This impressive AEI places Philanthropist above such outstanding stallions as Giant’s Causeway (16th), Kitten’s Joy (18th), Lemon Drop Kid (23rd), and More Than Ready (33rd).
It also places the chestnut star ahead of his very talented paternal half-brother Arch (also by Kris S). The sire of Breeders Cup Classic winner Blame, Arch is currently 25th on the list.

Philanthropist, whose first local yearlings have made up to R1.4 million this year, was a top class racehorse, whose six victories included the G3 Queens County Handicap.

One of more than 90 stakes winners for his sire, Philanthropist’s fourth dam is none other than the legendary blue-hen Grey Flight, the dam of no fewer than nine individual stakes winners.
