Former July winner Pomodoro, who covered a good book of mares in his first season at stud last year, has made a pleasing impression with his first crop of foals.
The foals include this attractive colt, out of Miss Wordsworth, who was born on August 10th.
Bred by Riverton Stud, Natasha Barry describes him as “He is an amazing foal! Extremely confident, alert and curious! Quite happy to wonder away from Mom to come and say hello to all visitors, be they two or four legged.”
The colt’s dam, Miss Wordsworth, is a half sister to five time stakes winner Noble Century as well as the smart filly Larsen’s Ice, who ran second in the G3 Flamboyant Stakes.
This is the extended family of ill-fated Fillies Guineas winner Yquem. Riverton Stud supported Pomodoro well in his first season at stud, having also sent the former July winner Serious Side, dam of recently crowned Equus Champion Sprinter Captain Of All.
Pomodoro, a son of seven time champion sire Jet Master, was an exceptional racehorse, who won from 1160m to 2450m and earned over R4 million in stakes.
His wins included the G1 Vodacom Durban July, G1 SA Derby, G3 Tony Ruffel Stakes, and he was placed in a further four G1 contests.
Out of former Broodmare of The Year Golden Apple (and bred on the same cross as champions In The Fast Lane and J J The Jet Plane), Pomodoro stands for a fee of R20 000 in 2015.
