Highlands Farm’s G1 winning young sire Potala Palace will be represented by one first crop yearling at this weekend’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Potala Palace, who is from the same family as recently crowned Singapore Horse Of The Year Debt Collector, was a top class athlete and G1 winning juvenile.
The son of champion Singspiel (a half brother to prominent sires Rahy and Rakeen) won two of three outings at two, with Potala Palace’s juvenile campaign ending in a comprehensive win in the G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes, where the handsome bay accounted for such notable G1 winners as Gimmethegreenlight (L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate), Fighting Warrior (Golden Horseshoe), and Master Plan (Champions Cup).
Potala Palace trained on well to go on to land the G3 Jo’burg Spring Challenge over a star studded field, which included Link Man (Equus Champion 2YO Colt), Wagner (G1 Sansui Summer Cup), Love Struck (G1 SA Classic) and Royal Bencher (G1 SA Derby).
He is certainly bred to be a top class sire –his sire Singspiel was an outstanding racehorse who went on to sire more than 90 stakes winners, with his tally including 14 individual G1 winners.
Singspiel’s top performers included champion Solow, G1 Prix de Diane winner Confidential Lady, G1 Dubai World Cup winner Moon Ballad, US champion and Breeders’ Cup winner Lahudood and champion 2yo, and former leading first crop sire, Lateral.
Potala Palace, who shares his broodmare sire Alzao with multiple champion sire Deep Impact, is from the immediate family of classic winners Golan and North Light, as well as champion Islington. Further back this is the family of the great sires Fairy King, Nureyev and Sadler’s Wells –with the latter being the grandsire of Potala Palace’s sire, Singspiel.
His single lot on offer at the Cape Sale is
Lot 188 – out of a winning Spectrum (sire of Potala’s classic winning relative Golan) mare, this colt is from the famed Lily family –responsible for including impressive recent 2yow winner Punta Cana
