Quasillo, a half brother to Maine Chance Farms’ exciting young sire Querari, stamped himself as a leading contender for the up-coming German Derby (Deutsches Derby) with an impressive victory in Sunday’s G3 Pferdewetten.de Bavarian Classic at Hanover.
Quasillo, a son of Sea The Stars, made it two wins from as many outings when coming from off the pace to score a two and a half length win in Sunday’s 2000 metres race.
Trainer Andres Wohler commented after the race, “He did that really easily today, but he is still quite green,” Andreas Wohler commented. “We have seen his potential for the Derby today, but he will need more experience.”
The unbeaten colt is now likely to head for the Deutsches Derby, which is set to be run on July 5th.
Quasilo and Querari certainly hail from a classic female line – their stakes winning dam Quetana, by triple Horse Of The Year and German Derby winner Acatenango, is out of the German classic winning mare Quebrada, winner of the 1993 German 1000 Guineas and runner up in the German Oaks. In turn, Quebrada herself is out of the outstanding racemare Queen To Conquer, winner of the G1 Yellow Ribbon Stakes and over $600 000 in stakes.
This is also the family of former French Champion Two-Year-Old colt Prudent, Champion Two-Year-Old Filly Level Best, and the influential North American sire War Relic.
A former German champion himself, Querari (by Oasis Dream) got his career to a blistering start with his first two-year-olds this season including high class stakes performers Champery, beaten a short neck in the Listed Perfect Promise Sprint, and Dynamic Sprint, who made the frame in both the Listed East Cape Nursery and Listed Dahlia Plate.
At the time of writing, Querari, sire of a R450 000 colt at this year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale, ranked third on the First Crop Sires list.
