Spring Wonder as a yearling

Spring Wonder as a yearling

Maine Chance Farms’ exciting young first crop sire Querari was represented by his first winner when the well bred filly Spring Wonder made a winning debut at the Vaal on Thursday.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, the eye catching 2yo Spring Wonder, who races in the distinctive Adriaan and Rika Van Vuuren silks, proved too strong for her rivals when landing the spoils convincingly in a maiden juvenile plate over 1200m. The filly, who gave jockey Weichong Marwing and trainer Mike Azzie the second leg of a quick double, showed plenty of heart to get the better of more experienced runner Shivering Sea by one length.

Spring Wonder, who is out of the Joshua Dancer mare Spring Ahead was a R650 000 purchase from the 2014 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale. She is just the second runner for her sire to date.

Querari

Querari

Querari surely rates amongst the best performed young horses currently standing at stud in South Africa.
A top flight performer himself, Querari’s victories included a triumph in the Group 1 Premio Presidente Repubblica, and two other black type victories. He has the pedigree to match his Group 1 winning form as well.

He is a son of champion sprinter Oasis Dream, who is one of Europe’s leading stallions with more than 90 stakes winners to his credit, including such top class G1 winners as Midday, Prohibit, Charming Thought, Tuscan Evening and Arcano. Former July Cup winner Oasis Dream is also now making his mark as a sire of sires, with his Gimcrack winning son Showcasing ending 2014 as the third leading first crop sire, by stakes, in Britain. Remarkably, three sons of Oasis Dream filled the top ten spots on that list, with Approve and Arcano finishing eighth and ninth respectively.

Querari is out of the stakes winning Acatenango mare Quetena, whose dam is the classic winning mare Quebrada.

This is also the family of highly influential North American sire War Relic, whose sire sons included the top stallions Intent and Relic. This male line was responsible for such important performers as Intentionally, In Reality, Bertrando, Tiznow, Relaunch and Honour And Glory, to mention a few.

Querari has 2 lots on offer at Sunday’s Val De Vie Yearling Sale, and another three at next month’s March Yearling Sale.
