Querari son lands G3 Spring Spree Stakes

Maine Chance Farms’ exciting young stallion Querari has made a great start to the 2016-2017 racing season.

Off the mark on the very first day of the new season, Querari is also the sire of the very first graded winner of 2016-2017 –with his brilliant son Kangaroo Jack landing the G3 Spring Spree Stakes at Turffontein on Saturday.
Trained by Gary Alexander, Kangaroo Jack had to overcome a layoff and the steadying burden of 61kgs but simply proved too classy for his ten rivals and went on to post an emphatic one and three quarter length win over Angel’s Power (with the latter  receiving no less than 7.5 kgs from the winner!)

Owned by Mrs Joyce Wallace, Kangaroo Jack has now won his last four on the bounce. Saturday’s G3 win was the gelding’s second graded win in a row, with Kangaroo Jack having previously prevailed in last season’s G2 Post Merchants back in June.

South Africa’s latest sprinting star is one of seven black type horses to have emerged from Querari’s small first crop. Other notables to have been produced in this crop include G2 The Debutante winner Cosmic Light (who was recently honoured at the KZN Racing Awards), G1 Thekwini Stakes runner up Melliflora and Listed East Cape Oaks heroine Solana.

Querari’s second crop looks equally promising and includes G1 Thekwini Stakes winner, and Equus Award nominee, Querari Falcon.
