Red hot Deputy continues to sizzle

Lammerskraal’s in form sire Go Deputy is currently riding a remarkable wave of success. What makes the son of Deputy Minister’s success all the more noteworthy, is that he is doing from very small numbers.

Go Deputy’s recent winners include Deputy Ryder (Listed Queen Palm Stakes), Arezzo (Listed Settlers Trophy), feature race winner Rampant Ice, and the potentially high class 3yos Flying Ice (Listed Devon Air Stakes) and Abashiri (3rd G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes).

From just 14 3yo runners to date, Go Deputy has had 10 winners/placed horses, and his sophomores not only include the above mentioned Abashiri and Flying Ice, but also the highly rated Royal Badge, a smart winner on debut.

He has runners nominated for such feature races as the Gr2 Sansui Summer Cup, Gr2 Emperors Palace Charity Mile, Gr3 Algoa Cup, Listed Michaelmas Handicap, Gr3 Magnum Cape Classic, Listed Woolavington Handicap and Gr3 Graham Beck Stakes – which suggests that Go Deputy’s great run of success is unlikely to end anytime soon.

The millionaire and G1 Sword Dancer Invitational Hcp winner is also the sire of this lovely colt foal out of the Western Winter mare Iditarod. The latter is a four time winning half sister to the talented performers Juan Two Three, Generalissimo and the now exported Counter Ridge.

Go Deputy’s current success mirrors the great run of form that he enjoyed with his first runners. The sire’s small first crop of just 29 foals which produced no fewer than four stakes horses including graded stakes winners Changingoftheguard (Gr3 Matchem Stakes) and Pessoa (Gr3 King’s Cup).

A son of dual champion US sire Deputy Minister, Go Deputy is a great outcross for Mr Prospector line mares as he carries not a drop of that great stallion’s blood. His female line has worked singularly well with Mr Prospector and his sons, with Go Deputy’s close relatives including the Mr Prospector line Gr1 winners Fappiano, Quiet American and Torrential –among others.
Go Deputy is also a three parts brother in blood to Gr1 Kentucky Oaks winner Keeper Hill –a daughter of Deputy Minister and a mare who traces back directly to Cequillo (herself the third dam of Go Deputy).

He also shares his Triple Crown winning broodmare sire Secretariat with stallion legends Storm Cat, A P Indy and Gone West, and surely rates as one of the best bred and best performed sires currently at stud in South Africa.
