The royally bred Cape stallion Rock Of Rochelle, whose first crop hit the racetracks this season, had an eye catching update to his already impressive pedigree this weekend.

Rock Of Rochelle’s dam Recoleta (by Wild Again out of Alvear) is a full sister to Gr1 Suburban Handicap winner Offlee Wild – the sire of 2014 Gr1 Breeders Cup Classic winner

. The latter, a leading contender for Horse Of The Year honours in North America this year, won Saturday’s $5 million contest in a thrilling finish, which saw Bayern account for Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome and the previously undefeated Shared Belief.

To date, Bayern (one of two Breeders Cup winners sired by the Wild Again stallion Offlee Wild), has won 6 of his ten outings (including the Gr1 Haskell Invitational and Gr2 Pennsylvania Derby) and has earned over $4.3 million in prize money. His sire Offlee Wild currently ranks 11th on the North American General Sires log, ahead of such world leading stallions as Smart Strike, Bernardini, More Than Ready and Street Cry.

This red hot female line (also responsible for legendary US stallion Dynaformer and 2014 Gr1 Travers Stakes hero V.E. Day) is also responsible for the talented racemare La Cloche (who was sold for $2.4 million at the recent Fasig Tipton November Sale). The Grade 3 winning La Cloche, a Ghostzapper half sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Winter Memories, is out of the brilliant Silver Hawk mare

Like Rock Of Rochelle himself, La Cloche and her kin descend from the outstanding Darby Dan mare Golden Trail.

The talented Rock Of Rochelle, himself a high class sprinter, shares his Rock Of Gibraltar with Saturday’s R3.85 million Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup heroine Rich Girl.
The latter, winner of last season’s Gr3 Strelitzia Stakes, has now amassed stakes of over R2 million from just eight outings.

Rock Of Gibraltar, one of the very best sons of sire legend Danehill, has had a huge impact on the South African racing scene.
From just a handful of runners, “The Rock” has been represented by such outstanding performers as Seventh Rock (Gr1 Gold Medallion and promising sire), Europa Point (Gr1 President’s Champion Challenge), Perana (Gr2 Victory Moon Stakes), Gibraltar Blue (Gr2 KRA Fillies Guineas), as well as one of South Africa’s top 3yo fillies this season Alboran Sea – winner of the 2014 Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship.
Rock Of Rochelle’s first yearlings proved exceptionally popular last season, when fetching up to R500 000, and he looks a really exciting sire of the future.
Rock Of Gibraltar’s Group winning son has a 2014 stud fee of R10 000.
