Royal winner for Duke Of Marmalade

Drakenstein Stud’s red hot sire Duke Of Marmalade was back in the headlines at Goodwood on Wednesday afternoon.
This time, the Duke was in the news due to his HRH The Queen owned daughter Daphne scoring a gutsy victory in the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Fillies Stakes.

Trained by William Haggas, Daphne made it win number two when scoring a gritty nose victory –having tracked the leader early on before being set alight with two furlongs left to run.

Former Cartier Champion Duke Of Marmalade has enjoyed another superb season, with his group/graded winners in 2016 including the likes of Big Orange, Can’thelpbelieving, Diamond Made, Duchess Andorra and Simple Verse.

His four time group winning son Big Orange currently is among the leading fancies for November’s G1 Emirates Melbourne Cup, while champion filly Simple Verse herself is on target to line up in either the G2 Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup or the G1 Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes, a race Simple Verse won last year.

A son of Danehill, Duke Of Marmalade has been represented by more European stakes winners this year than such top class stallions Acclamation, Cape Cross, Le Havre, New Approach, and Zoffany.
