Sail From Seattle -gone too soon!

Boland Stud are proud to offer two daughters (one as agent) of the late, great Sail From Seattle at this month’s Sibaya KZN Yearling Sale.

Sail From Seattle, whose victories included the Mt Sassafras Stakes, was a horse with an exceptional pedigree. He is a son of G1 Dwyer Stakes winner and the outstanding sire Gone West, whose numerous top class sire sons included South Africa’s Champion Sire Western Winter, as well as the likes of US Champion Sire Elusive Quality, and the very successful Grand Slam, Mr Greeley, Speightstown Zafonic and Zamindar –to name a few.

A half brother to ill-fated Canadian Champion 2YO Hello Seattle, Sail From Seattle’s second dam, former US Canadian Champion 3YO Filly Classy ‘N Smart, is the dam of Canadian Horse Of The Year and Broodmare Of The Year Dance Smartly and G1 winner and dual US Champion Sire Smart Strike, as well as G1 Niagara Breeders’ Cup Handicap hero Full Of Wonder.

His third dam is the legendary broodmare No Class –who produced four G1 winners or champions, including highly successful sire Sky Classic.

Retired to stud in 2009, Sail From Seattle’s first crop produced no fewer than six stakes horses including the G1 winners Elusive Gold (Cape Guineas) and Gulf Storm (Cape Flying Championship), East Cape champion Seattle Storm and millionaire G2 winner Tommy Gun.

Seven stakes horses emerged from the sire’s second crop –headed by Listed Lady’s Slipper winner Dancing Natasha, and Guineas/Classic placed Sail For Gold.
After being injured and unable to cover, Sail From Seattle had just two registered foals in his next crop, but his current crop of 2yos include some exceptionally promising runners.

This tally includes Listed The Sun International Summer Juvenile Stakes runner up Pacific Spirit, G3 Protea Stakes runner up Seattle Singer and last out three and a half length winner Blizzard King.

Sadly, Sail From Seattle died recently, and this sale will provide buyers with a rare opportunity to acquire stock by a young sire who could have been truly exceptional.

The first of Boland’s Sail From Seattle fillies to go through the ring is lot 19. This filly (offered by the stud as agent) is a half sister to 2 winners and she is out of a winning half sister to G2 performer El Pradrino. Bred on a similar cross to former G1 Cape Guineas winner Solo Traveller, this filly’s second dam won five including the Listed Syringa Handicap and is a half sister to the graded stakes winners Hot Reception and The Waltz.

Second of the Boland Stud consigned Sail From Seattle fillies, catalogued as lot 97 is out of an Al Mufti mare and is thus bred on the same cross as Elusive Gold.

Her second dam, by Caesour, is a half sister to the G1 winners Priceless Asset and State Treasure, and is from the same family as ill-fated Equus Champion 3YO Filly Tara’s Touch, Horse Of The Year Blaze Of Fire, and G1 Golden Slipper heroine Bilateral.

The filly on sale is inbred to Bold Ruler and Somethingroyal, as well as the breeding shaping sire Hail To Reason and US Horse Of The Year Nashua.
