Saturday double for Leading First Crop Sire

Varsfontein Stud’s exciting young stallion Gimmethegreenlight looks set to be crowned South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire by stakes for the 2015-2016 racing season.
The handsome son of More Than Ready had yet another juvenile double this weekend, when his sons Power Grid and Cream Soda Green won at Kenilworth this past Saturday, to give their sire his 13th and 14th first crop winners respectively.

Bred by Daytona Stud, Power Grid had run second on debut when going down by just 1.25 lengths to Oceans Trip. He duly went one better on Saturday, and this handsome looking colt looks sure to win more races.

His paternal half brother Cream Soda Green (bred by Highlands Farm) was, if anything, even more important.  The gelding simply romped to victory, in open company, and scored an emphatic five and a half length win over 1400m and Cream Soda Green looks sure to win more races in the winter months. A R140 000 buy from last year’s March Yearling Sale, this juvenile is out of Winning Archer – a three time winning daughter of successful US sire and broodmare sire Arch.

Their sire is currently South Africa’s fourth leading sire of 2yos for the season, with Gimmethegreenlight’s first two-year-olds having already earned more than R1.184 million this season.

Gimmethegreenlight has two lots on offer at next month’s CTS August Two-Year-Old Sale:
