Klawervlei Stud’s successful sire Count Dubois was represented by his second G1 Daily News 2000 winner in the past three years when his Edict Of Nantes won Saturday’s R2 000 000 Daily News 2000 at Greyville.
Edict Of Nantes’ victory was preceded by Count Dubois’ Equus Champion French Navy, who won the Daily News 2000 back in 2015. French Navy, who lines up in Saturday’s G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge, also won the G1 SA Classic in 2015 and was that season’s Equus Champion 3YO Colt/Gelding.
(To date, French Navy has banked more than R4.9 million in prize money.)
Bred by Klawervlei, and a R360 000 purchase from the 2015 Farm Sale, Edict Of Nantes took his tally of wins to five (and his earnings to over R2.1 million) with a brave half length defeat of G1 SA Derby winner Al Sahem on Saturday. The Brett Crawford trained colt had previously tasted G1 success when victorious, under legendary rider Frankie Dettori, in this year’s Investec Cape Derby and now looks a leading hope for this year’s G1 Vodacom Durban July.
Edict Of Nantes has now won or placed in four graded races and could well give his sire yet another Equus Award win!
Count Dubois, himself a former Equus Outstanding Stallion, is the sire of 40 stakes horses to date, with his other notable offspring including the exported G1 winners Asylum Seeker and Zeeno.
The former Italian champion will be represented by seven yearlings at the 2017 Klawervlei Farm Sale.
