Wilgerbosdrift Stud’s recent sire acquisition Flower Alley looks to have a really nice 3yo on his hands in 2015.

His son Firespike took his tally to three wins from just seven outings when he won Tuesday’s OBS Championship for colts and geldings. The sophomore colt, winner of the 2014 Juvenile Turf Stakes, was last in the early going of the $100,000 OBS Championship for colts and geldings, but circled horses on the turn, ran by the leaders in deep stretch and drew off to a 2 1/4-length victory. Big Yum (Kantharos) put in a good late run to be second, a neck in front of Prince Vincenzo (Exclusive Quality).

Victory in the $100 000 contest pushed Firespike’s earnings to over $180 000.

He is one of 16 stakes winners for Gr1 Travers Stakes hero Flower Alley, whose previous stars include champion and Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another.

Another son of the stallion, Lukes Alley, is one of four nominees for the Sovereign Award of Champion Older Male of 2014.
By champion sire Distorted Humor (whose son Any Given Saturday is the sire of the outstanding US performer Hoppertunity), Flower Alley is a half brother to Gr1 winners Tosen Ra and Spielberg.

He is from the same family as twice French champion sire Lyphard, sire of the outstanding South African sire Elliodor.
