Second winner for Gimmethegreenlight

Varsfontein Stud’s well performed and exciting young sire Gimmethegreenlight was represented by his second first crop winner when the Nadeson Park bred Gunner made a winning debut at Scottsville on Sunday.

Gunner, who is trained by Paul Gadsby, was backed down from 16-1 to 8-1 and duly obliged , winning a maiden juvenile plate over 1000m in smart style.

He is the second winner for his G1 winning sire, whose son Skip The Red won smartly over 1000m before finishing second in the Sentinel Stakes. Another son of Gimmethegreenlight, Pepe Le Pew has been nominated to the R1 000 000 G1 SA Nursery.
To date, Gimmethegreenlight has had five first crop runners either win or finish in the money –and this tally looks sure to increase sooner rather than later!

One of over 150 stakes winners sired by G1 King’s Bishop Stakes winner More Than Ready (sire of sire sensation Sebring and the promising young Australian sire Pluck), Gimmethegreenlight was himself an outstanding racehorse at both two and three.

A half brother to G1 Coolmore Classic heroine Ofcourseican, Gimmethegreenlight reeled off four consecutive wins at two (including the Listed Somerset 1200) and was unluckily beaten in two Grade Ones as a juvenile.
The handsome colt proved himself among the best of his generation when accounting for dual Horse Of The Year Variety Club, at three, in the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and was beaten 1.25 lengths, by another Horse Of The Year –Igugu, in the G1 J&B Met over 2000m.

Gimmethegreenlight, who won from 1000-1600m, won or placed in 12 of his 13 outings and earned over R1.6 million. His sire More Than Ready has an excellent record in South Africa, with his other notable runners including Equus Champion 2yo Filly Entisaar, G3 Langerman hero Ready To Attack and G3 Winter Guineas winner Readytogorightnow.

He has eight lots on offer at Friday’s Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale, including a colt out of fast stakes winner Comet Chaser (Lot 25), a filly out of a stakes winning daughter of the great sire Danehill Dancer (Lot 69), and a half sister to this season’s hugely promising 2yo Pacific Spirit (Lot 74).

Gimmethegreenlight’s formidable 22 strong draft for the National Yearling Sale includes a filly out of SA Fillies Classic winner Caughtintheslips (Lot 32), a filly out of G1 winner On Her Toes (Lot 240), a half sister to G1 performers Felix The Cat and ML Jet (Lot 360) and a half brother to recent feature race winner Val Et Al (Lot 398).
