Secret Heart daughter third in US feature
Three Hearts, a filly very closely related to former Gr2 Breeders Cup Turf Juvenile winner Pluck, ran third in Saturday’s Gr3 Virginia Oaks. The three-year-old daughter of Sunday Silence son Hatrick was beaten just over half a length into third by Nellie Cashman (Mineshaft) and Praia (Distorted Humor).
Three Hearts has now won or placed in seven of her ten outings. While this was her best performance to date, the three-year-old had finished second in the Little Silver Stakes at her previous outing.
She is out of the South African bred mare Secret Heart, who hails from one of the best and most prolific families in the South African stud book. Her dam Secret Pact was a full sister to champion London News, and, apart from Secret Heart, produced champion Promisefrommyheart and Gr1 winner Covenant.
Secret Heart was a top-class racemare in her own right, who competed at the highest level during her racing career.
Trained by Justin Snaith, the big bay won five times including the now Gr3 Prix du Cap. She was also placed in the Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas (behind Aus G1 winner Perfect Promise) and Gr1 Paddock Stakes (behind Beverly D Stakes heroine Crimson Palace).
Retired to stud in North America, Secret Heart made history when she became the first SA bred mare ever to produce a Breeders Cup winner. Her son Pluck (by More Than Ready) won that $1 000 000 contest.
He is now standing at stud at the Vinery in Australia, where Pluck covered a full book of mares in his first season at stud.
This family, which has produced a number of international performers including King’s Gambit (G3 Gordon Richards Stakes), London News (G1 QE II Cup), Pluck and now Three Hearts.
The Soho Secret family is also responsible for the R3 000 000 yearling Master of My Fate, who broke his maiden so impressively recently.
