Seventh G1 win for Greys Inn champion

Rosedene Stud’s resident sire Greys Inn is responsible for the brilliant Legal Eagle, who dug down deep to record a third consecutive win in the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate at Kenilworth on Saturday.

In the process, the ever green six-year-old pushed his earnings well past R10.5 million and the Sean Tarry trained Legal Eagle looks unlikely to stop here.
Bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, Legal Eagle has now won 12 of his 21 outings.

He has been unplaced just twice in his career, and the dual Horse Of The Year has now notched up seven G1 wins. Legal Eagle is yet to taste defeat over a mile, and has also won two of his three starts this season –to date, he has a total of 10 graded victories to his credit.

The gelding was a R425 000 purchase from the  2013 National Yearling Sale.

Legal Eagle is the best son, to date, of former Equus Champion Greys Inn, whose trio of G1 victories included the 2004 Vodacom Durban July.

One of more than 40 G1 winners for legendary New Zealand stallion Zabeel, Greys Inn is also responsible for the graded stakes winners King Of Pain, Royal Bencher, Chekilli, Canterbury Tale and Forries Waltz.

He has a single lot on the 2018 Cape Premier Yearling Sale –a filly (Lot 80) whose winning siblings include G3 Langerman third Lastbutnotleast.
