Silvano sons run 1-3 in G3 Cup Trial

Currently South Africa’s Leading Sire by stakes, Maine Chance Farms’ resident sire Silvano dominated proceedings in the G3 Cup Trial bought to you by KITCHEN STUDIO at Greyville on Saturday.

Elusive Silva

Silvano sons Elusive Silva and Black Arthur ran 1-3 in the R300 000 Trial, and both could now well take their chances in the G1 Vodacom Durban July (a race won by Silvano sons three times previously) next month.

Bred by the Nutfield Stud, Elusive Silva was making it win number three from his last four outings when storming home to down Crowd Pleaser and G2 Canon Guineas winner Black Arthur in the 2017 Cup Trial.

The chestnut four-year-old, who had won the Listed Sledgehammer two starts back, was quickly installed a 15-2 third chance for the Vodacom Durban July following his short head win in the Cup Trial, with Black Arthur also being supported in –he is now a 10-1 chance for the R4.25 million July.

Elusive Silva, also successful in last year’s G3 Winter Derby, has now won five of just 12 outings with Saturday’s victory pushing his earnings to over R570 000.

He is out of the Fort Wood mare Esprit and is thus bred on the same Silvano/Fort Wood cross as G1 winners Marinaresco and Nightingale (also runner up in Saturday’s G2 Tibouchina Stakes).

Silvano, who was last champion sire in 2013, has been represented by 12 black type winners this season, whose 16 black type wins include the G1 SA Derby, G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic and G1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes.
