Silvano’s Winter Series’ clean sweep

Maine Chance Farms’ resident sire Silvano’s offspring totally dominated the 2016 Winter Series, which concluded with the running of the G3 Winter Derby on Saturday.
Marinaresco (by Silvano) won the first two legs, the G3 Tekkie Town Winter Guineas and G3 Winter Classic respectively, before his paternal half brother Elusive Silva (by Silvano) added the G3 Winter Derby to his tally.

Bred by the Nutfield Stud, Elusive Silva became his sire’s 62 stakes winner when the chestnut colt won Saturday’s Winter Derby by a commanding two lengths.

Owned by Messrs Bouwer, Braun, Loomes and Truter, Elusive Silva was a R375 000 buy from the 2014 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
His winning dam Esprit is a full sister to former Equus Champion and exciting young sire Elusive Fort (sire of impressive recent 2yo winner Smokey Affair).

Former Champion Sire Silvano has been enjoying another excellent season –Elusive Silva being his 11th individual black type winner in 2015-2016.

Silvano, who will be represented by three runners in Saturday’s R4.25 million Vodacom Durban July, has a superb crop of three-year-olds this season, who include G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas winner Silver Mountain (a runner in Saturday’s G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes), G2 Canon Guineas winner Black Arthur and the above mentioned Marinaresco.

Elusive Silva is the 11th black type performer to have emerged from his sire’s current sophomore crop, which also includes the talented G1 filly Nightingale.

Silvano has four lots on offer at this week’s Sibaya KZN Yearling Sale –

Lot  104 –bred on the same cross as Silvano’s Met winner Martial Eagle, this colt (a half brother to the useful Jubilee Line) is out of a stakes placed daughter of champion sire Jallad and a SA Fillies Nursery placed daughter of National Assembly (damsire of Silvano’s champion son Vercingetorix)

Lot 162 –this colt, bred on the same cross as Silvano’s G1 winners Happy Valentine and Vercingetorix, is out of a National Assembly daughter of champion Monyela, with the latter being a three parts sister to South African racing legend Horse Chestnut

Lot 244 –a half sister to a 2yo winner, this filly is out of a daughter of champion Tatler –and from the family of another champion (Consensual), as well as the hugely promising Myfunnyvalentine, and top class current 2yo Attenborough

Lot 302 –this filly, bred on the same cross as Guineas hero Black Arthur, is a half sister to 2 winners, and her dam is a half sister to champion and successful sire Victory Moon and to champion Kelly. Inbred to Triple Crown winner Nijinsky II, this filly’s other notable relatives include champion and Met winning filly Imperious Sue and recent G3 winning filly Real Princess
