Singapore success for Var

Avontuur’s prominent sire Var enjoyed international success this weekend, with his Boland Stud bred son Quicksilver saluting in Singapore.
Trained by South African born Pat Shaw, Quicksilver was too speedy for his opponents when scoring by half a length over 1200m at Kranji on Friday.

The five-year-old, who was making his return to racing after an injury, has now won twice in Singapore, with both of his victories coming over 1200 metres.

Out of the Caesour mare Calpurnia, Quicksilver was a R280 000 buy from the 2013 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

Quicksilver’s sire Var also enjoyed a profitable weekend in South Africa, with the former sprint king being represented by a treble of winners in that period.
Var’s treble began with the well bred A Woman’s Will scoring at Turffontein on Saturday. His blue blooded son Okavango Delta gave Var a quick double when breaking his maiden over 1800m on the same card, while a day later, Var’s speedy son, Percival, made it three wins on the bounce when scoring over 1200m at Durbanville.

The sire of Equus Champions Variety Club, Val De Ra and Via Africa, Var has an exceptional draft of nine lots on offer at this weekend’s CTS Ready To Run Sale at Durbanville racecourse:
