Klawervlei’s resident champion sire Captain Al was represented by his 17th individual stakes winner this season when his 2yo daughter Captain Gambler landed the Listed Irridescence Stakes at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Bred and owned by the Drakenstein Stud, Captain Gambler ran on strongly to land Saturday’s R125 000 contest by a head. She has now won two of just four outings, and looks yet another smart prospect for Captain Al, who is currently well on track to record his eighth consecutive 2yo sires title.
Remarkably, she is the sixth Captain Al filly to win the Listed Irridescence Stakes, with Captain Al’s previous winning daughters including the subsequent G1 Paddock Stakes winner Emerald Cove.
The well bred Captain Gambler is the sixth stakes winner to have emerged from Captain Al’s current crop of 2yos. This crop already includes three individual G1 winners –Always In Charge, Cloth Of Cloud and The Secret Is Out –and this tally looks likely to grow still further.
Captain Al’s success as a sire of outstanding two-year-olds can be viewed in the list of major 2yo races won by his offspring this season. They include:
G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion
G1 SA Nursery
G1 Allan Robertson Championship
G3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery
G3 Strelitizia Stakes
G3 Pretty Polly Stakes
Listed The Sun International Summer Juvenile Stakes
Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery
Listed Perfect Promise Sprint
