Smart win for pricey yearling buy
Real Princess, one of the most expensive yearlings sold in South Africa during 2013, broke her maiden in smart style on Wednesday.
Making just the second start of her career, the 2yo filly pulled clear to register a 1.75 length in a maiden juvenile plate for fillies over 1200m.
Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Real Princess is owned by Khaya Stables. The Dean Kannemeyer trained filly, who was fifth on debut, was backed down to start a red-hot favourite for the race at odds of 8-10.
A daughter of leading sire Trippi, Real Princess was produced by the winning Fort Wood mare Pagan Princess. The latter is a half-sister to five stakes horses, including ill-fated champion, and sire, Victory Moon, who won the Gr2 UAE Derby and was third in the Gr1 Dubai World Cup.
Wednesday’s winner was the most expensive filly sold at the 2013 Cape Premier Yearling Sale (Book 1), where Real Princess was knocked down to Form Bloodstock for R2.7 million.
A full-sister to Real Princess, named Dance At Dawn, was the joint top lot at the 2014 Cape Premier Yearling Sale when knocked down to Goodhope Racing for R3.2 million.
