Sportsworld’s remarkable Met feat
Daughters of the now deceased Daytona sire Sportsworld are becoming increasingly successful broodmares. In 2013, they produced Hill Fifty Four (runner up in the Met), and Master Sabina (second in the Summer Cup).
However, Sportsworld surpasses even this in the 2014 J&B Met, which was run at Kenilworth last Saturday.
No fewer than four of the 18 runners in the R2.5 million race are out of mares sired by Sportsworld – Whiteline Fever, Hill Fifty Four, Master Sabina and Hot Ticket. In other words, Sportsworld was the broodmare sire of nearly a quarter of the runners in the Cape’s biggest race.
A beautifully bred horse, Sportsworld is a son of Alleged, a superb broodmare, out of a mare by Nureyev (one of the finest broodmare sires of the last 20 years). Between them, Alleged and Nureyev are the broodmare sires of 360 stakes winners!
To date daughters of Sportsworld (Alleged) have not been outstanding – they have bred just a total of 10 stakes winners (two of whom being sired by Silvano) and his daughters are yet to produce a Gr1 winner. However, judging on his Met achievement, Sportsworld’s record as a broodmare sire could yet reach the heights that his superb pedigree suggests it should.
