Stagelight relative shines at Arqana

A close relative of Oldlands Stud’s resident stallion Stagelight made headlines at the recent Arqana Yearling Sale.

Catalogued as lot 175, the Invincible Spirit colt was knocked down to Shadwell France for €700 000, the colt is out of the outstanding Linamix mare Tonnara, who is best known as the dam of Group One winners Most Improved (St James Palace Stakes) and Ectot (Criterium International).

This is also the family of champion sires Big Game, Hunter’s Moon, Mossborough, Pharamond, Sickle and the legendary stallion Hyperion, as well as the hugely influential sire Sir Tristram.

Angus Gold, who signed for the colt, said of Shadwell’s latest acquisition, “ His page pretty much says it all. He’s by a very good stallion and out of a mare who has bred two Group 1 winners. I imagine he’ll stay in training in France but Sheikh Hamdan likes to look at the horse first and then make a decision.”

Tonnara, who is out of the stakes winning Danehill mare Mahalia, is a granddaughter of Maresca (Mill Reef). The latter is also the granddam of Cape stallion Stagelight.
A son of the great racehorse and stallion Montjeu, Stagelight became his illustrious sire’s first classic winner when he accounted for a smart field in the Gr3 UAE 2000 Guineas.

Best known as the sire of smart fillies Margot On Stage and Nonki Poo, Stagelight is one of six stakes horses produced by the Shernazar mare Zivania.
