Stars abound in Drakenstein’s NYS draft
Drakenstein Stud are proud to offer a 15 strong draft of yearlings at the 2014 Emperors Palace National Yearling.
The farm, home to the likes of Trippi, What A Winter, Philanthropist and Horse Chestnut, are also acting as agent for six other choicely bred yearlings.

Drakenstein stallions Trippi and Horse Chestnut have enjoyed tremendous success in recent weeks, with Trippi being represented by such high-class performers as Trip Tease, Not Sulking and Punk Rocker, while SA legend Horse Chestnut is the sire of the exciting Gr3 winning 3yo Chestnut’s Rocket.

No doubt yearlings by these stallions will once again prove popular at this year’s National Sale.

Here is a brief summary of the Drakenstein Stud yearlings on offer:

Lot 26 is a colt by former Gr1 Travers Stakes runner up, and promising young sire, Mambo In Seattle. A half-brother to a recent winner, this colt is out of the Oaks placed mare, Santiago.

Lot 54 is a beautifully bred son of champion Horse Chestnut. He is out of a three time winning daughter of champions Western Winter and Whistling Dixie, and his dam is a half-sister to champion, and Dubai star, Grand Emporium.

Lot 83 is another son of Mambo In Seattle, sire of unbeaten 2yo The Royal Rumba. His dam, by Arc de Triomphe winner and sensational broodmare sire Rainbow Quest, is a half-sister to classic winning champion, Strategic Choice.

Lot 146 is a colt by a Grade One winner out of a Grade One winner. By former Champion 2YO Colt Argonaut, this colt is a half-brother to the high-class Gr1 performer Chave De Oura, and is out of the Gr1 SA Fillies Sprint winner, Wonderful World.

Lot 201 is one of the best bred colts on sale. By top sire Trippi (sire of numerous top performers including unbeaten 2yo Punk Rocker), this colt is out of Gr3 winning Candy Singer – a half-sister to unbeaten US G1 winner and leading sire Candy Ride.

Lot 221 is a daughter of Black Minnaloushe – sire of Gr1 winning 3yo and Triple Crown hopeful, Louis The King. An own sister to a useful winner, this filly is out of smart racemare Che Negrita, a stakes placed winner of seven.

Lot 227 is a colt by Equus Champion and promising young sire Jay Peg. He is out of a stakes placed half-sister to top-class Gr2 winning sprinter, Chant De Nuit.

Lot 309 is a daughter of Trippi – sire of top fillies R Heat Lightning, For The Lads, Hammie’s Hooker and Not Sulking. A full-sister to a winner, she is out of four time winning sister to Gr1 SA Guineas hero Heir Apparent.

Lot 315 is a colt by Champion and promising sire Horse Chestnut. His dam, who won 3, is a daughter of champion sire Western Winter and top-class filly Happy Harriet.

Lot 316 is a colt with a world class pedigree. By Trippi, he is out of a high-class Gr3 performer (by champion Australian sire Encosta De Lago). This is an outstanding US family, whose members include red-hot US sire Discreet Cat.

Lot 331 is a Trippi colt from one of the best families in the stud book.  Out of a half-sister to British G1 performers Charnwood Forest and Medaaly, this colt’s second dam is an own sister to G1 winner, and champion SA sire, Fort Wood.

Lot 427 is a half-sister to two winners. Her dam, by world leading sire and broodmare sire Seeking The Gold, is a half-sister to a stakes winner, and third dam, Snow Bride, won the Epsom Oaks, before producing the unbeaten Epsom Derby hero Lammtarra. A filly with huge paddock value!

Lot 438 is a Trippi colt from one of the hottest families around. Out of top-class G3 winner Milden Magic, this colt is a half-brother to the dam of outstanding Gr1 SA Classic winner Louis The King (a contender for this year’s SASCOC Triple Crown).

Lot 473 is a son of outstanding Trippi out of the high-class Gr3 winning Fort Wood mare National Banker. He is a half-brother to multiple stakes winner Halve The Deficit (winner of the G2 Colorado King Stakes).

Lot 515 is a beautifully bred son of Trippi – sire of high-class males Trip Tease and Punk Rocker. A half-brother to stakes winner Brown Penny, and an own brother to the useful Night Trip, this colt is from the same family as one of France’s greatest ever racehorses Peintre Celebre.

Lot 96 is a chestnut son of promising young sire, and US Gr1 winner, Visionaire. He is out of the outstanding racemare Sweet Virginia, and is a half-brother to this season’s top-class, stakes winning 3yo Strongman.

Lot 189 is a colt by Danehill’s champion son Tiger Hill, sire of the outstanding, but-ill fated, Rewilding. A brother to 2 winners, this colt is bred on similar terms to champion 2yo Mujahid (also from this family), as both are male line descendants of Danzig.

Lot 179 is a filly by arguably South Africa’s hottest sire- Var. This filly shares her sire with outstanding females Val De Ra, Via Africa and Schiffer and hails from the family of G1 winners Shoe Express, Al Nitak and Top Seller.

Lot 224 is a filly by Kingmambo’s blue blooded sire Ideal World, sire of easy recent winner Super Glue. A half-sister to pricey yearling and stakes winner Roman Wall, she is from the family of champions Horse Chestnut and Monyela.

Lot 424 is a daughter of champion sire Silvano, sire of G1 winning females Flirtation, Field Flower and Happy Valentine. She hails from the same family as South Africa’s first equine millionaire, and leading sire, Model Man.

Lot 475 is a son of leading resident sire Trippi. He is a half-brother to five winners including G2 winning sprinter Fair Brutus, and is bred on the highly successful Trippi/ National Assembly cross.
