Drakenstein Stud’s Horse Of The Year sire Legislate received a smart update to his female line when his full sister made a winning debut at Scottsville for trainer Michael Roberts on Sunday.
Three-year-old Statute simply outclassed her rivals when romping to a first out five length win over 1200m and she looks a very smart filly in the making.
The filly also continued the great run of success enjoyed by breeders Cheveley Stud of late- with Cheveley also responsible for breeding Saturday’s brilliant G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas winner Snowdance.
Statute, a R700 000 buy from the 2016 National Yearling Sale, is out of the speedy four-time winning mare Champers, who won up to 1200m. Champers is best known as the dam of Horse Of The Year and multiple Equus Champion Legislate, a course record breaker over 1600m at Kenilworth.
Legislate, who earned over R5.7 million during his illustrious career, won seven times with his four G1 victories including the Vodacom Durban July, Rising Sun Gold Challenge, Daily News 2000 and Investec Cape Derby.
The record breaking champion is one of the very best sons of Horse Of The Year and multiple Equus Outstanding Stallion Dynasty, whose son Liege won the recent G1 Sansui Summer Cup. (Like Legislate, Dynasty won the July, Daily News 2000 and Cape Derby!).
Legislate’s first foals arrived this year.
