A daughter of seven times champion sire Jet Master, Ebony Flyer is out of Equus Broodmare Of The Year Sunshine Lover, and numbers former record breaking Equus Champion Captain’s Lover as her half sister.
A R700 000 purchase from the 2009 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, the imposing Ebony Flyer was sent into training with champion trainer Justin Snaith.
She quickly made an impression on the track, winning her first four starts – with three of these wins coming in feature races. Ebony Flyer’s initial four race winning streak culminated in a superb defeat of subsequent Horse Of The Year Igugu in the Grade 1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas of 2010.
Ebony Flyer would go on to pick up further Grade 1 victories in the Gr1 Garden Province Stakes and Gr1 Majorca Stakes, and ended her career having won eight of her 13 outings.
An enormously charismatic filly, with a large number of fans, Ebony Flyer, who also numbered the Gr2 Odessa Stud Fillies Championship and Gr3 Diana Stakes among her wins, earned over R1.7 million during her illustrious career.
She was described by her part- owner, Barry Irwin of Team Valor, as “Ebony Flyer was the most talented female to carry our colors at Team Valor and we are thrilled to welcome her first offspring.”
Ebony Flyer is set to visit leading sire Captain Al (sire of Captain’s Lover) this season.
