Up-coming Philanthropist received yet another handsome boost to his already impressive pedigree when the Phipps stable’s Promote made a winning debut over 1200m at Belmont Park on Sunday.
Promote (a son of the Kris S grandson Blame) broke well, dropping back to the tail of
the field in the first furlong. Moving up one spot but still close to 10 lengths off a:22.25 quarter, Promote started to rally in earnest passing the five-sixteenths marker.
Splitting horses in midstretch, he soon became the only closing threat to frontrunner Art Boss and kicked on strongly in the final sixteenth under minimal urging to inhale that foe and score by two lengths going away in 1:09.62.
This impressive debut performance netted the three-year-old a Rising Status from esteemed publication Thoroughbred Daily News (TDN).
Promote is very closely related to Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Philanthropist (by Kris S).
Not only do both horses trace back in male line to the outstanding sire Kris S, but both Philanthropist and Promote are descended from the important Key To The Mint matron Pure Profit.
The latter, second dam of exciting sire Philanthropist, is the third dam of Promote, whose second dam, Hall Of Fame member Inside Information, won 14 races from 17 outings, with her career highlight coming in a 13.5 length romp in the 1995 G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff.
Philanthropist and Promote both trace back in female line to the mighty mare Grey Flight, who produced no fewer than nine stakes winners, including champion sire What A Pleasure.
