Terrific May Month for Riverton Stud

For a stud that only has 12 to 15 yearlings entering the market each year, Riverton Stud has been on fire lately. In a fitting tribute to the late great Roy Eckstein, Tales of Bravery, that was born and raised on Riverton for Victory Moon Breeding, won the Gr 2 Drill Hall Stakes. Then on the 26th May, Potent Power won the Gr 1 Tsogo Sun Medallion going away! Congratulations to owners EW Buhr, MA Currie, M Dally & BHF Syndicate and Trainer, Dennis Drier and Jockey Kevin Shea.

Potent Power bred by Riverton Stud is by National Emblem out of Solar Galleon by Captain Al. In 2010 Link Man, bred by Riverton for Tawny Syndicate won this race and they are thrilled that another Riverton bred horse has taken this prestigious race for Dennis Drier! John Freeman reckons that Solar Galleon also sets a new record for Captain Al as a SA broodmare sire. With very few daughters at stud Captain Al is surely the first SA bred stallion to sire the dam of a Gr1 winner from his first crop of daughters to go to stud and one of the very few stallions to be the damsire of a Gr1 winner so early in his career. Solar Galleon is currently in foal to Riverton’s resident stallion, Blue Tiger.
