The Equus Awards for 2012-2013

The Equus Awards for 2012-2013
Variety Club was named South Africa’s Horse of the Year for the second year in a row at a glitzy awards ceremony at Emperors Palace Casino on Wednesday night. The magnificent son of Var, who was unbeaten during the season, was also named Champion Older Male and Champion Miler.

Cape bred horses featured prominently at the awards evening – taking home no fewer than eight awards.

Wednesday was also a tremendous triumph for two of South Africa’s most popular sires. Silvano was not only officially crowned the country’s latest champion sire, but his unbeaten son, Vercingetorix was named Champion 3yo Old Colt.

Sensational first crop sire Judpot not only received the Outstanding Stallion Achievement award, but his daughter Along Came Polly, who won or placed in four Gr1 races, was the night’s Champion 2yo Old Filly.
