Third winner for Gimmethegreenlight

Varsfontein Stud’s exciting young sire Gimmethegreenlight was represented by his third first crop winner on Friday when his 2yo daughter Beataboutthebush made a winning debut over 1200m.

Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Beataboutthebush was a R300 000 purchase from last year’s National 2YO Sale.

She is the third winner for her sire following Skip The Red and debut winner Gunnar, which makes Gimmethegreenlight the joint leading first crop sire in South Africa by number of winners.

A superb athlete himself and former star 2yo, Gimmethegreenlight’s 6 career wins included the 2012 G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, in which he accounted for dual Horse Of The Year and Hong Kong G1 winner Variety Club by half a length.

Gimmethegreenlight is one of over 150 stakes winners for G1 King’s Bishop Stakes winner More Than Ready, who has been champion sire of 2yos in both Australia and North America. Out of a mare by G1 Golden Slipper winner Canny Lad (also damsire of the great stallion Redoute’s Choice and promising young sire I Am Invincible), Gimmethegreenlight is a half brother to G1 Coolmore Classic winner Ofcourseican.
