Moutonshoek’s promising young sire Marchfield has a hugely promising three-year-old to his credit this season.
Marchfield’s first crop son, Field Of Courage, made it three wins from just four outings when landing an allowance optional claiming race at Woodbine on Sunday.
Given an 8-1 chance here, Field of Courage rated at the back of tightly bunched field early. He swung to the outside heading into the far turn and circled the field to take command. Unbridled Juan (Unbridled’s Song) and Breaking Lucky (Lookin At Lucky) sidled up alongside the Oxley colorbearer by midstretch, but Field of Courage kept on to finish a head in front of Breaking Lucky
Trained by Mark Casse, Field Of Courage was produced by the Bold ‘N Flashy mare Miss Crissy.
His sire Marchfield, last year’s Second Leading First Crop Sire in Canada, has made a pleasing start to his stud career and currently ranks as Canada’s Leading Second Crop Sire.
A son of legendary US sire A P Indy, Marchfield was Canada’s Champion Older Male in both 2008 and 2009. Marchfield, who earned over US$1 million in stakes, is out of Canadian Broodmare Of The Year Pico Teneriffe.
