Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Trippi, who currently heads the SA General Sires List, looks to have another smart sort on his hands in the form of Chepardo.
One of two winners this past weekend for his sire, Chepardo maintained his unbeaten record when landing a handicap over 1400m on Saturday for owner Chris Gerber and breeders Highlands Farm.
The 3yo, who was a R350 000 buy at the 2013 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, has now won three races from as many starts, with his wins coming from 1160 to 1400m and looks destined for bigger things.
Chepardo’s sire Trippi made history this season when his son, Illuminator, became the first horse to win a $1 000 000 race on African soil.
The Klawervlei bred colt has now amassed prize money of over R8 000 000 –and could be aimed at the G1 Daily News 2000 later in the season.
Other notable performers sired by Trippi this season are G1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes winner Inara, a triple Grade One winner, G1 Sansui Summer Cup runner up Deo Juvente, top sprinters Triptique and Trip To Heaven, G2 Premier Trophy winner Paterfamilias, and G2 Diadem Stakes winner and millionaire Lanner Falcon. Both Deo Juvente and Inara are nominated for the R4 million Champions Challenge to be run at Turffontein at the end of April.
The sire of over 115 stakes horses (and counting), Trippi’s progeny have already earned in excess of $53 000 000.
The son of End Sweep will be represented on both next month’s March Yearling Sale and April’s National Yearling Sale.
Trippi’s sole lot on offer at the March Sale is a filly whose winning dam, from the family of current 3yo star and Saturday’s G2 Betting World Gauteng Guineas winner Abashiri, is a three parts sister to former Horse Of The Year and five time G1 winner Yard-Arm (Lot 64).
His nine strong draft at the National Sale includes a colt out of Jet Master’s G2 winning daughter Hawker Hunter (Lot 129), a full brother to triple G1 winner Inara (Lot 224), a colt out of Fort Wood’s classic winning daughter Rememberance (Lot 286), and a full sister to G1 SA Nursery runner up Ziparana (Lot 427).
