The hugely promising 2yo Zodiac Ruler made a considerable impression when he landed Saturday’s G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe at Greyville on July day.
Trained by Justin Snaith and owned by Fred Crabbia, the Zoffany colt was slow away in the 1400m contest but produced a devastating turn of foot to mow down his rivals and win going away.
Now unbeaten in two outings, Zodiac Ruler was pinhooked for $17,000 dollars at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale and later was resold for R450 000 at last year’s Lanzerac Ready To Run Sale. He is a half sister to top class Australian filly Almighty Girl –whose wins including the G3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes.
This exciting colt, who looks a natural classic prospect for next season, is very closely related to Hemel ‘N Aarde’s well bred young stallion Time Thief, whose first South African crop of foals will be born this year.
Zodiac Ruler’s dam, Sybarite, is a Last Tycoon half sister to G1 performer Time Thief (himself winner of the Zeditave Stakes and runner up in the G1 Caulfield Guineas), as well as the latter’s champion ¾ sister Laisserfaire.
Second dam Procrastinate was an outstanding broodmare, with the former G3 VATC Tristarc Stakes winner’s 10 individual winners including five major stakes winners.
This is also the family of former New Zealand leading sire and broodmare sire Centaine –whose 60 odd stakes winners include 12 G1 winners, notably Kinjite and Slight Chance.
Time Thief is extremely closely related to Zodiac Ruler (a potential Equus Award candidate), being a son of Redoute’s Choice –who shares his sire Danehill with Dansili –the grandsire of Zodiac Ruler.
