John Everett’s Narrow Creek Stud have a top class draft on offer at the 2017 National Yearling Sale.
The farm has been enjoying another good patch of late, and is responsible for such no fewer than three impressive debut winners in the forms of Itsgonnarain (a leading contender for the upcoming Listed East Cape Nursery), Crymeariver and Ponchielli.
Narrow Creek’s eight strong NYS draft this year includes yearlings by such high profile sires as Elusive Fort, Querari and What A Winter. The ill-fated Sail From Seattle (sire of recent G3 Sycamore Sprint winner Seattle Singer) is also represented in the Narrow Creek draft, as is Dynasty’s triple G1 winning son, and first crop sire, Jackson.
First of the Narrow Creek draft on offer at the National Sale is lot 32, a colt by Sail From Seattle out of a winning own sister to G3 Starling Stakes winner Katy’s Lane. This colt’s dam is also a half-sister to 10 time feature race winner Follow The Piper and G3 placed four time winner Pipe Opener.
The ill-fated Sail From Seattle, also responsible for such G1 winners as Elusive Gold and Gulf Storm, is enjoying another superb season highlighted by the likes of the above mentioned Seattle Singer and no fewer than nine individual 2yo winners (so far).
Next into the ring is lot 50, a colt by Oasis Dream’s champion and hugely promising sire Querari (responsible for G1 winner Querari Falcon and this season’s exciting 2yo Made In Hollywood among many others). This colt’s dam is a half-sister to an Argentine Breeders’ Cup winner and is from the same family as champion Kascura among many other high class South American performers.
Triple G1 winner Jackson, who is from the same family as US champion sire Smart Strike and the above mentioned Sail From Seattle, has two in the draft. His first lot is 99, a filly out of a four time winning half-sister to G1 Champions Cup winner African Appeal and to stakes winner Mary Lou. This is the same family as G2 winner Joan Ranger and a recent Seventh Rock sales topping filly.
Second of the Jackson yearlings on offer is lot 147 a three parts sister to none other than G2 Fillies Guineas winner Alexis (who is by Jackson’s sire Dynasty). This well bred filly is out of a half-sister to 3 stakes winners including G2 winner Weston Paint and recent feature race winner Deputy Ryder.
Triple Equus Champion What A Winter has made a sensational start to his stud career and is currently South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire. Also very popular in the sales ring (his yearlings have fetched up to R2.8 million), What A Winter is the sire of two lots in this draft. First of the champion sprinter’s pair is lot 388, a half-brother to 5 winners, including G2 Fillies Guineas winner Fair Enough. This well bred colt is out of a Model Man ¾ sister to G1 performer Ramblin Jac Eliot and half-sister to Listed Syringa Handicap winner Start Me Up.
What A Winter, from the family of sire greats Hyperion and Sir Tristram, is also sire of lot 390 –a colt out of a Silvano half-sister to stakes winner Blushing Fairy and his second dam is brilliant 2yo Tarn Fairy. This is also the family of star filly Fairyinthewoods, whose six wins on the bounce included the G2 Southern Cross Stakes over 1000m.
Equus Champion Elusive Fort, sire of star performers Safe Harbour, Lauderdale and Siren’s Call –and Narrow Creek Stud bred debut winner Crymeariver, is responsible for lot 466, a half-sister to a winner, from the same family as champion Yorker.
Last in this draft is lot 477, a Querari colt out of a Fort Wood half-sister to classic winning Fillies Guineas winner Maybe Yes.
