Klawervlei’s well performed young sire Twice Over has proven very popular at sales rings all around the country this year and he was once again in demand when a colt by the former European champion topped the KZN Yearling Sale, held at Sibaya Casino last Thursday and Friday.
The sales topping colt, consigned by Highlands Farm Stud (part of Ridgemont), was knocked down to Nic Johnsson for R800 000.
A striking looking bay, the as yet unnamed sales topper is the first foal of the winning Tapit mare Gin Rummy, and was the only yearling at the sale by Twice Over.
He is, however, not the first yearling by Twice Over to make waves in 2017.
At the Cape Premier Yearling Sale in January, Twice Over had yearlings fetch R2 100 000, R800 000 and R700 000 respectively, while another colt by the European champion fetched R350 000 to top the 2017 Cape Yearling Sale earlier this year.
The four time G1 winner’s popularity continued at the National Yearling Sale, when a colt by Twice Over out of Queen’s Bay made R1 200 000, while yearlings by Twice Over fetched up to R450 000 at last month’s Klawervlei Farm Sale.
Currently South Africa’s third leading first crop sire by prize money, Twice Over’s first runners including Equus Award hope and undefeated G1 Tsogo Sun Gold Medallion winner Sand And Sea, and his first 2yos this season have already banked more than R700 000 in prize money.
