Prominent speed sire Var looks to have a really nice filly to his credit in the form of the Maine Chance Farms bred and owned Sommerlied.
The latter, whose trainer Dennis Drier is no stranger to the progeny of Var, made it two wins from as many outings when holding off the very smart filly Miranda Frost to win by 1.5 lengths at Kenilworth on Wednesday.
Sommerlied, who had previously broken her maiden when scoring on debut at Scottsville, is out of the Pentire mare Sommermarchen.
Her sire Var is no stranger to siring top class fillies, with his best daughters including such G1 winning champions as Val De Ra and Via Africa, as well as the top class graded winners Princess Of Light, A Womens Way, Valdivia, and the G1 filly Schiffer.
Var’s daughters are also showing promise at stud, and he already features as broodmare sire of smart stakes winner Mambonick (by Mambo In Seattle) and the leading Fillies Guineas hope, and G3 Starling Stakes winner She’s A Giver (by Philanthropist).
His current 3yos include the likes of brilliant Ruffian Stakes winner Exquisite Touch, G1 SA Nursery runner up Rivarine, G2 filly La Revere and brilliant debut winner La Roquette.
