Avontuur’s outstanding resident sire Var ended the 2015-2016 season in tremendous fashion and his daughter A Womens Way made it two wins from as many outings when she proved too game for Arissa in Sunday’s G2 The Debutante at Greyville.
Another Var filly, the previously undefeated La Revere, finished back in third –to give their sprinting sire sensation a 1-3 finish in this R300 000 contest.
Bred by Avontuur, A Womens Way had previously won first time out over 1000m and clearly is a very smart filly in the making.
Trained by Duncan Howells and owned by Bruce le Roux and Tinus Gericke, A Womens Way was a R500 000 buy from last year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Her sire Var enjoyed another magnificent season, and ended 2015-2016 as the second leading sire of 2yos (by stakes). His top 2yo runners (which included a total of no fewer than 22 winners) included not only the above mentioned A Womens Way but also G1 SA Nursery runner up Rivarine and impressive Listed Ruffian Stakes winner Exquisite Touch.
The son of Forest Wildcat has two lots on offer at the upcoming National Two Year Old Sale –
Lot 102 – a full sister to a winner, and three parts sister to Var’s G1 daughter Schiffer, this filly’s dam is a half sister to 3 stakes winners, including graded winners Mentor and Royal I.Q.
Lot 157 – bred on the same cross as the above mentioned A Womens Way (both are out of Windrush mares), this colt is a half brother to the outstanding filly Juxtapose, winner of both the G1 SA Fillies Classic and G2 SA Oaks, and his dam is multiple G3 winner Sunsational
