Underwood Stakes next for Oratorio son

Oratorio’s talented son Mourinho looks likely to make his next racetrack appearance in the G1 Underwood Stakes at Caulfield this Saturday.
Mourinho, who recently returned to the stable of trainer Peter Gelagotis, is being aimed towards the G1 Cox Plate, due to be run at Moonee Valley on October 24th. The gelding has a fine record at Moonee Valley, having won there on five occasions, so clearly he is track suited!

Mourinho, one of more than 40 black type winners sired by Oratorio thus far, is a proven galloper with top class form.

A winner from 1200-2200m, Mourinho has won or placed in 19 races and has earned more than AUS$1 million in stakes.
The gelding has won or placed in nine group races, with his wins including the G2 Australia Stakes, G2 PB Lawrence Stakes, G2 St George Stakes, and G3 JRA Cup.

Among the top horses beaten by Mourinho are Dissident (G1 Randwick Guineas), Happy Trails (triple G1 winner), Protectionist (G1 Melbourne Cup), Smokin’ Joey (G1 Goodwood Hcp), Sonntag (G1 Queensland Derby), and Spillway (G1 Australian Cup).

The Underwood Stakes, to be run over 1800m, has attracted 16 possible runners among them recent G1 Makybe Diva Stakes hero Fawkner, and fellow G1 winners Contributer, Mongolian Khan and Volkstok’n’barrell.
