Var fillies have a Golden Appeal
Golden Touch Thoroughbred Services are proud to offer two Var fillies at next week’s March Yearling Sale at Durbanville racecourse. One (Lot 88) is offered from Golden Touch while Golden Touch is also acting as agent on lot 52.
The first of the two Var sired daughters on sale is lot 52, a full sister to the useful Tour de Var. This neat bay filly, already named Bacini, is out of the smart racemare Silver Chord, who herself won four times. Silver Chord is also a very well bred mare, being a Silvano half sister to former Equus Champion 2YO Filly Consensual. This pedigree page recently received an exciting update, when Consensual’s promising daughter Ad Idem ran a short head second in Dubai’s UAE 1000 Guineas Trial.
Bacini, a filly with a pedigree out of the top drawer, is also a great granddaughter of outstanding racemare and G1 Cape Fillies Guineas heroine In Camera.
Second of the Golden Touch offerings is another beautifully bred filly in the form of Pinot Var. Inbred to the great mare Crimson Saint, this choicely bred bay is out of the well performed Velvet’s Image, a G3 placed winner of four. Velvet’s Image has also done really well at stud, with her runners including lightly raced Gold Prospector, who was never beaten on sand.
Velvet’s Image is also dam of the very classy Reflective Image, whose five wins included the Gr2 Sceptre Stakes, where she accounted for such exceptional fillies as Jet Belle, Franny and Welwitschia. Reflective Image (by Tamburlaine) also won the Listed Olympic Duel Stakes and netted her connections over R600 000 in stakes.
The pair’s sire Var is an outstanding stallion, who has a fine record as a sire of top class fillies. To date, Var has sired no fewer than 30 daughters who have won or placed in black type races. His top class fillies include the champions Val De Ra and Via Africa, Oaks winner Princess Of Light and the Grade 1 fillies Schiffer and Valeta.
The two day sale will commence on Friday 20th March at 18:00 and the second day of trading is due to get underway on Saturday at 12:30 pm.
