Var juveniles continue to fire

Avontuur’s red hot sire Var is really enjoying an unbelievable run of success with his 2yos this season.
Fresh of his 2yo daughter Exquisite Touch posting a facile victory in the Listed Ruffian Stakes, Var juveniles were back in the spotlight on the weekend. The son of Forest Wildcat, represented by four South African winners overall this past weekend, had a pair of impressive debut 2yo winners on Saturday and Sunday respectively –taking his tally of 2yo winners this season to ten.
Le Harve, who was bred by Avontuur, kicked off the Var juvenile double when making a winning debut over 1000m for former champion trainer Justin Snaith.
The colt, a full brother to Var’s G1 Golden Horse Casino Sprint winning son Normanz, is held in high regard by the Snaith stable, and Le Harve duly justified his odds of 5-2 with a comfortable one length win. Le Harve, an R850 000 buy at last year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale, looks very smart and is yet another exciting prospect for his sire this season.
Second of the Var juveniles to salute on debut this weekend was the filly Diamond In The Sky, who won for KZN trainer Alyson Wright on Sunday. The filly landed a maiden juvenile plate for fillies over 1000m in good style, with Diamond In The Sky placing one and a half lengths between herself and runner up Fortissimus.

Other exciting Var juveniles this season include the undefeated Exquisite Touch, impressive debut winners Var Ahead and Wake Up Maggie, the highly rated He’s A Var, promising Ribovar, and Listed Storm Bird Stakes runner up Rivarine.

Var has 3 lots on offer at the March Yearling Sale, including a including a colt from the family of G1 performers Cover Look and Fanciful (Lot 14) and a full sister to the very useful Raconteur (118).

Var’s 28 strong draft on offer at next month’s National Yearling Sale includes a colt out of G1 Majorca Stakes heroine Covenant (Lot 53), a filly out of Silvano’s G1 Cape Fillies Guineas winner Field Flower (Lot 87), a half brother to G1 Champions Cup hero Ivory Trail (Lot 138) and a colt out of the magnificent broodmare Mystic Spring (Lot 230).
