South Africa’s 2012 Horse of the Year Variety Club has been given the nod by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities as the world’s joint champion 3yo miler for 2012.

The magnificent son of Var was rated joint 3yo miler alongside Caulfield Guineas winner All Too Hard and 2000 Guineas winner Camelot. The trio all received a rating of 119.

At three, Variety Club won six of eight races, including the Gr1 Cape Premier Yearling Sales Guineas and Gr1 Rising Sun Challenge. He is unbeaten this season, and was an impressive winner of Saturday’s Gr1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate.

Well done to connections, owners Markus and Ingrid Jooste, trainer Joey Ramsden and breeder Anton Shepherd.
